I did it again. I stayed up til past 3:00am with an early start later. ;_; But I couldn't help it, as I was looking through old, unfinished pictures on my hard drive and came across this piece. I had given up on it ages ago because I didn't like it or think I could pull it off, but I feel I've learned a lot about digital colouring in the last few months. So, I decided to have another crack at it. Whaddaya know...
This is my character Alistair. He is aged about 16 here. He suffers from quite severe Astra-/Keraunophobia and he absolutely hates it. He wants to be as brave and strong as his older brother. ...No further explanation necessary, really. I apologise for awkward proportions/perspective. It was a difficult angle to draw!
Media: 0.5 HB Mech pencil on regular sketchpad paper for sketch, Photoshop 7 and wacom intuos3 for colouring. Time: Dunno... 3+ hours? (with a several month break in the middle, but we shan't count that... :])
I listened to "Flume" by Bon Iver throughout the most recent part of colouring process. My god it's gorgeous. So, so gorgeous.
I'm definitely doing a lot more constructive work. I still don't know where I'm going with my art. This is the first time I've not known what to do form my final piece before starting the project.
Ohhh man I just love this! The darkness and the rain and the ANGUISH and aaaaah you got it just right. Also, you managed to pull off a really awkward angle BRILLIANTLY. Respect, yo.
&& I WANT YOU TO WRITE YOUR STORIES OUT. All of them. In a big file for me to read. I see pictures like this and they're so awesome and deep, and you just KNOW you'd love it more if you fully understood. =3
The ANNGGSST. Thanks a lot my dear, I'm glad you like it!
I do write them out, little chunks in individual files. I'm building up a gradual collection of them, over time. I just write them all from different POVs and in different styles each time, so I can't settle on one to make a proper, fluid story.... I can email you some if you like? Thing is, I'd like some feedback if that's ok! Like, critique on writing style/actual plot/little details/general spelling and punctuation (I think I use too many commas, so I need a second opinion!) Would you be prepared to help with that??
This made me stop being annoyed with Keraunophobia altogether. Now I have all this sympathy for it. SUCH a DRASTIC CHANGE of feeling because of this picture.
It reminded me of if Arcade Fire and Iron and Wine had a lovechild. I did like.
Oh god I have a playlist for every little thing. Half my characters, whole books, feelings, hobby occasions, and friend's characters have playlists. Not to mention my 758430258 playlists of "What I want to listen to right now." "What I really want to listen to." "This is for RIGHT now." "This is everything I love to listen to." "This is the best of what I want to listen to." "RIGHT NOW." "Nooo... NOW!" etc.
And the perspective is really good and you managed to balance the detail of the grass just right.
IN AWE.
I am really happy with the balance of details in the grass too... glad you noticed!
THANK YOUUU. <333 And thaks so much for the fave as well.
How's A-levels treating you?
